Another dream standby flight
My Thai Airways B777-200 pulled up at the gate 5 mins before our schedule departure time. Boarding took place without passport checks.
We departed about an hour late but it was otherwise an awesome flight with only around 50 passengers.
I had three seats on which I was horizontal for 6h out of the flight time of around 7h30. I was probably asleep for 4h30.
A hot meal was served after take-off and hot snacks before landing at 1230, only half an hour later than scheduled.
Arriving in Bangkok
We disembarked at a remote gate at Suvarnabhumi Airport and was bused to the terminal. I faced a long queue for immigration, in fact, so long that I couldn’t see the desks! Fortunately, it was fast-moving and took only 25 mins.
There’s meant to be an aircon public bus from the airport to Khao San Road where I’m staying. I couldn’t find the boarding point despite following the information I had found online. So, I took the tourist Limobus which was non-stop but pricey by Thai standard.
It took about 80 mins today, meaning I reached the hotel around 1530. It wouldn’t have been much faster in a taxi, I’m guessing, as it was a non-stop service.
After an hour, I headed out to explore the lively area that I’m familiar with. I was glad I had chosen to book here again rather than the Silom area which I had considered. I’m less familiar with that area but probably would have enjoyed it too though.
I explored till full darkness had fallen and the place got even busier with eating and drinking. Khao San Road is quite wholesome in that the sex trade is nowhere to be seen.
