Ecclesiastical district

6 July 2024

Our room at the hotel included a buffet breakfast, our first in several days.  I feel good for having eaten a lot less and more lightly over the last few days.

At the end of breakfast, Kim felt that his tummy wasn’t quite right.  Even though we had shared all our meals, I had had no trouble except for the foulest wind last night after dinner.  There had been some cabbage but not as much as what we would consume at home.

Fortunately, thing settled for him and we were able to head out around 1000.  Somehow, we got terribly disoriented leaving the hotel and took some time to work out the right direction for the tram.

We disembarked at the Hala Targowa market hall and found it to be a treasure trove of fresh fruit and local cooked food.  It seemed like a good place to return to and this was confirmed when Kim found a place upstairs to replace his watch battery.

Just across the first bridge from the market was the Church of the Our Lady on the Sands, located on a small island.  Another bridge took us to the other bank of the Oder River where there were more churches and the Cathedral of St John the Baptist.

Again, we felt good walking around the ecclesiastical district without the large crowds.  Buskers made the environment even more enjoyable.

I sat in the shade on the river bank while Kim returned to the hotel to get his watch for battery replacement.  The trams here are free for him!  Once that had been done in the market hall, we sat down to share a bigos.

Today, the weather peaked at 30 degC with clear skies.  It was pleasant in the shade with a breeze but scorching in the sun.  It was our first clear day since arriving in Central Europe; it had largely been cloudy with some drizzle at pleasant or cool temperatures.

We finished our stay in Wroclaw with a walk to the old town area and a Polish dinner at Rozowa Krowa.  We took a different route today on our walk and found a street with lots of eateries stucked in the arches of the elevated railway line.

With the very early start tomorrow, we took a pill to put us to sleep early.
