Above: In front of Maafushi’s prison. Because the prison offered employment to locals, they had capital to start guest houses and hotels when the tourism industry was liberalised in 2009.
Today, we have a fifteen-minute ferry ride at 1615 from Gulhi to Maafushi, as we move our base over for the next three days.
We had a 1h morning swim after breakfast, before checking-out at 1200. We killed 2h at an elevated seaview café by sharing a lunch. Then, we killed more time at the hotel lobby. Time went relatively quickly though.
It seems silly that we built our day around the 15 min ride instead of pay for a speedboat transfer around 1300, for example.
The ferry ride was the same as from Male, further away. It appears to be a flat MVR22 (USD1.50) per ride regardless of length.
At Maafushi, the Rehendhi Villa didn’t meet us but I kinda knew the way there so it wasn’t too much of a biggie. Boo had booked the hotel with half-board. The dinner wasn’t flash with the chicken being hacked Chinese-style with bones.
Regardless, it was a filling meal and we walked off our dinner by exploring the island.
