Festival of Lights

Continuing on the road

After lunch in the Whanganui, we continued our drive to New Plymouth, getting to the Devon Hotel around 1730.

Driving through town in search of dinner, we came across the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery / Len Lye Centre with its impressive mirror-finished exterior.

We took dinner at a Korean fried chicken and beer joint.  Their liquor license wasn’t ready so they only had soft drinks but we weren’t wanting any beer anyway.  Interestingly their receipts say “Jesus Loves You” in big print!

Festival of Lights

We killed about an hour back at the hotel until it was nearly dark before driving to Pukekura Park for New Plymouth’s annual Festival of Lights.  It’s held just after Christmas and runs for about a month.

The festival comprises many artistic installations in a park that is also very lush and beautiful even during ordinary times.

I was impressed with the event and it was definitely worth the couple of hours detour through New Plymouth and the overnight.
