Reluctant departure

A trip that I didn’t want We’re flying to Los Angeles for a short trip to Florida.  It’s not a trip that I really wanted or needed.  I had only just returned from a two-month trip to Yemen only a week ago.  It seemed ridiculous to fly out so soon heading in the opposite direction. […]

Home sweet home

After a same-plane transit in Sydney, I arrived back in Auckland in the afternoon.  It was the end of another great adventure comprising of Socotra, mainland Yemen, and Morocco.  It wasn’t all fun, fun, fun but also a journey of learning.  I continued and built on my Arabic language skills and also learned Thai massage.

Final sightseeing

It’s quite an irony that I had been learning Thai massage at Wat Pho Thai Traditional Medicine School but hadn’t actually visited the wat this trip.   Since we had some time before check-out and the evening departure, I thought it would be good to go along with Mum and step-dad. Text continues after this gallery. […]

Shopping day

I’m truly not a shopper but when in Bangkok, I feel like I should make an effort.  There are good bargains to be had and it makes the day more interesting for my oldies.  After breakfast we took a taxi to Jatujak Market. After a while, the oldies rested and had lunch.  I continued looking […]

Passing with flying colours

Above:  Splashing water on the streets is part of the Songkran tradition. Today is Songkran or Thai New Year.  Despite the auspicious day, our Thai massage course and exam is proceeding normally.  It was with some surprise that I got to school dry and not drenched by merry-makers as per the Songkran tradition. Our instructional […]

Meeting family

Above:  Bangkok skyline from my room. I arrived into Dubai at 0110 for a connecting flight at 0315 to Bangkok.  Surprisingly, that was enough time for me to go to the airport first class lounge near Costa Coffee for a shower, internet and snacks. The flight to Bangkok took less than the scheduled time of […]

Chaotic finish to Morocco

“Jet lead” I woke at 0300, like the last few mornings.  That’s way too early as my flight only leaves at 1320.  I put it down to “jet lead”.  Sounds crazy but I seem to have developed a knack of adapting to the time zone of my next longhaul destination several days in advance! Departure […]

Back to square one

Today I return to where I started in Morocco.  To Casablanca, for a nightstop before flying out. I got a trolley porter to help with my luggage from my accommodation to the CTM bus station.  The 1115 bus took around 7h30 including a lunch stop of tajine to get to Casablanca. During the journey today, […]

The windy city

Today I make my way to Essaouira, my final stop in Morocco before returning to Casablanca for my exit.  It was a 3h bus ride from Marrakech.  Upon arrival at Essaouira, I was a bit lost for directions to my accommodation.  I knew it wasn’t too far away so didn’t want to pay for a […]
