Swabbed

We left Auckland just before midnight tonight. On the way through security I was picked randomly and had my hand luggage swabbed for explosives (or traces thereof). I had a last minute change of heart and used my little sling bag today … if I had used my daypack, I would have been in trouble.  […]

Saved by the blizzard

My departure from Dubai was 0940.  With luggage already held by the airline, I didn’t need to be at the airport too early.  But just as well I didn’t dally leaving the hotel because I had trouble finding a taxi straight away. All went well on the Emirates flight to Hong Kong.  I couldn’t afford […]

Pay-toilet on my flight

I left Yemen for Dubai today with mixed emotions.  It was sad to leave Sanaa and Marie but happy to be on the way home. I noticed on the flight that the “Push” sign on the toilet door was also written in Arabic as “Idfaa”.  That also means “Pay” (imperative or command form).  I like […]

Kim was working on the flight tonight to Hong Kong.  I was well-looked after in my flat-bed.

Transit

My flight from London landed in Los Angeles at 1930.  I have a two hour transit here for the continuing aircraft to Auckland but the USA has no concept of transit without actually entering the country, as seen in most Asian airports.  And despite being on standby, I managed to get on the continuing journey […]

Homeward bound, alone

Above:  Toulouse is also known as the Pink City because of its brick buildings. Today I make my way back to Auckland alone, while Kim makes his homecoming three days afterwards with his parents.  The reason for this is that he’s spending a couple of days at a car event at Goodwood in southern England. […]
