Getting stuck

Getting stuck … or unstuck? I had hurriedly googled a few possibilities for handling my nearly 7h18 delay in Sydney, before proceeding to the gate.  I got to gate later than I normally would have.  It was actually a perfectly-timed boarding onto Virgin Australia’s 737-800 to Sydney. It was a pleasant flight with a light […]

Getting to hometown

Cheap way home Today I slowly make my way towards my family in hometown Kuching for Chinese New Year.  At this time of year flights there are expensive, but I found a special deal to Bali for NZD544 return, on Virgin Australia with great connections.  Allowing for nightstops and the shorthaul flights to Kuching, it […]

Short domestic trip

I thought it would be nice to go see friends and relatives in Christchurch.  It combined well with an invite to go camping with Kim’s friends at Lake Benmore.  Despite being on a standby ticket, I managed to get to Christchurch without too many hassles during the holiday period.

Home sweet home

I leave Melbourne after experiencing the craziness of their weather.  It was 9 degC when I arrived and went to a max of around 18 degC before having a day of 30 degC!  Then it turned cold again.  Talk about extremes! I had had too much sleep the night before last and suffered last night […]

On the move again

Today I leave Kuching for Melbourne via Kuala Lumpur.  The flight leaves in the late afternoon, but I wanted to do as much as I could for Mum and my brother who recently had a knee operation. Disjointed day

Leaving Kuching Today we fly from Kuching to Chiang Rai.  It was booked as an AirAsia Fly –Thru connection via Kuala Lumpur  as KCH-KUL-CEI very cheaply.  But the new route KUL-CEI was suspended soon after it was introduced so they re-accommodated us via Bangkok Don Mueang ,  KCH-KUL-DMK-CEI.  It added about five hours to the […]

Nightstop

Despite having left late, we arrived in Singapore at 1630, 20 mins early.  For a change, we were parked near the immigration area which meant no train ride or a long walk.  There were no queues for immigration and taxis meaning that I got to my aunt’s in no time.

Escaping winter

The Auckland winter ends tonight officially and the weather hasn’t been too wet or windy lately.  It isn’t really that cold by many standards in four-season countries.  However, I know that the wet and windy misery can stretch on till November (or December) so hence I have another escape from Auckland … even if it’s […]

Homeward bound

Our flight to Auckland with ETA of 0030 on Saturday 03 August, closed up 20 minutes ahead of schedule but couldn’t push back till a few minutes ahead of scheduled time.  Another aircraft next door beat us to the pushback and took up the available space. I was lucky to have received my paid upgrade […]
