Back to Rarotonga

We flew back to Rarotonga early and returned to the Aquarius Rarotonga for another nightstop. We hired a motorbike to explore even though the weather was getting a bit cool.  We attempted to circle the whole island but failed on our first attempt anti-clockwise as it started drizzling. After a break, we reversed direction and […]

We did two dives today with Aitutaki Scuba (Neil Mitchell).  The first dive was at Rapae Wall was alright. We saw a turtle float past … then another one which had been resting amongst the rock got up and took off. We also went down 28m into a canyon but there wasn’t much to see.  My dive […]

Shortlived Despair The noise outside in the early morning was either rustling of the coconut fronds or rain … we couldn’t tell.  It was windy and gloomy with patches of blue.  Then came a loud knock on our front door followed by advice that our lagoon cruise with Kia Orana had been cancelled. After exploring Melbourne during the day, I enjoyed dinner of Sarawak Laksa and Tapioca cake with the family.  Very yummy.

A piece of Arabia in Australia

I caught up with a friend from Uni for a coffee lunchtime today … something which was unexpected and arrranged at short notice. What I had been waiting for was dinner with Natalia, a former school-mate and hostel-mate from my days in Yemen.  She took me to a Yemeni restaurant in Ascot Vale (Union St) […]

Glacier country

From Hokitika we drove down to the two Glaciers … Franz Josef and Fox.  Actually there are many more glaciers but these are the two that are open to visitors and managed by the Department of Conservation (with marked walking tracks etc for safety). While glaciers are pretty, the rivers that run from them aren’t […]
