Sea-kayaking despite a tsunami warning

We woke early and rang the kayaking company.  It’s still all on, regardless of the tsunami warning … we later understood that Civil Defence’s expectations was that it would affect the North Island more (the TV showed some surges in Northland when we went back at the end of the day). We had booked the […]

A sad day for Japan

Sea kayaking is something I’ve always wanted to try out … well, not quite always … since I saw the beautiful green waters of the Abel Tasman National Park. We flew down to Nelson in the evening and drove to Motueka where we stayed with family friends. We arrived to hear about the big earthquake […]

Swim with sharks

In between the various events at the Art Deco festival, I had some spare time. So I decided to go swim with sharks in the National Aquarium. I checked out the pricing and it wasn’t too bad compared to just a walk-in visitor. I was led up to the backroom where I donned a thick […]

Back to Rarotonga

We flew back to Rarotonga early and returned to the Aquarius Rarotonga for another nightstop. We hired a motorbike to explore even though the weather was getting a bit cool.  We attempted to circle the whole island but failed on our first attempt anti-clockwise as it started drizzling. After a break, we reversed direction and […]

We lay […]

Short flight to paradise

We had to wake up at 0630 for the 0800 departure from Rarotonga to Aitutaki.  We hadn’t thought of the “2 hour” time difference (but a day behind) when we planned to catch the early morning flight.  Yawn! We got to the airport at 0715 and the place was dead.  Things opened up shortly after […]

The way New Zealand should be

Above: Cook Island domain names end in “co.ck”. Due to crossing of the International Dateline we were back to Tuesday the 3rd of August!  One day before we left New Zealand … We walked across the road from the small airport terminal for our overnight stay at Aquarius Rarotonga hotel.  It was a tidy place […]

Cuzzy catch-up

The reason for stopping in Melbourne was to see my relatives … I hadn’t seen my aunt and my cousins for ten years.  Lots have changed, both my cousins are now married with children. After exploring Melbourne during the day, I enjoyed dinner of Sarawak Laksa and Tapioca cake with the family.  Very yummy.
